A Nerf gun is defined as any weapon, usually light and varied in color, that propels darts (usually orange), balls (usually green) and missiles (usually red) using springs, air pressure, or a similar mechanism. Though technically it could be applied to any weapon of this sort, a gun is only correctly labeled a Nerf gun if it is made by Nerf and brandishes the Nerf logo.

The original Nerf gun is called the Blast-A-Ball. It was released in 1989, and was replaced by two blasters. The first, the Blast-A-Matic, was basically the same blaster but with more ammo room. The second was called the Hydro Bazooka, Both released in 1990, the Hydro Bazooka and the Blast-A-Matic shared a lot in common. The Hydro Bazooka shot a pump of water with every shot, however and the Blast-A-Matic didn't.
There are only two major machine guns out today, the Vulcan and the Stampede. The smaller of these is the Stampede.
