Chess is a two-player board game played on a chessboard, a square-checkered board with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. Each player begins the game with sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, whereby the king is under immediate attack (in "check") and there is no way to remove or defend it from attack on the next move.

There are many benefits to playing chess as a pastime. The main one being that it is fun. The rules are easy to learn and once you do you can set up and play a game of chess in seconds, especially if you have access to the internet. Another benefit is it is sociable. Many people play chess in clubs or in parks, and it is easy to become part of a team who play chess together in competitions. Another benefit is it helps logical thinking. In order to get good at chess you need to constantly calculate what's going to happen next in a game.

Many computers will come with a free chess game that you can play against the computer. There are some online leagues, but a turn can take over an hour to get done due to time allowances for players.
I'm glad to see that we have someone who wants to play my favorite board game, chess :). One great free website that I highly recommend is chess.com . Some things that I specifically like about chess.com is that about 5,000 new members are joining everyday, so you'll never keep on having to play the same person. Another thing that I like about chess.com are all the features to help you improve your gameplay like the "Tactics Trainer" and the "Chess Mentor". Chess.com also has a daily puzzle everyday for you to solve. My truly favorite thing about chess.com is that you can play correspondence chess, or live chess. If you are a busy person, then you can play correspondence chess (days per move). However, if you like playing games that you can finish in one sitting, you can also play Live Chess. Hope this helped! ~ Max
