The question is difficult to answer because "most business" can refer to the most cues sold, the most custom cues made, or the highest volume of sales in dollars. Custom cue makers often have a few custom cues of their own design and these can represent the majority of their sales. This is because a true custom cue, designed and made for only one owner, can take anywhere from 1 year to 3 years from the time design is started until the cue is delivered. The American Cuemaker's Association includes more than 40 cusotm cue makers, with 5 of them in the Hall of Fame. Arguably, some of these do the most business today, and include Joss Cues, Bill Schick Cues, Richard Black Custom Cues, South West Cues, and Tad Cues. However, this takes away from other popular custom cuemakers that do well today, such as Schon Cues, and more.

Who are americas best pool cue makers?

The answer to this is subjective. All the US custom cue makers are good in their own right, the term "best" depends on what you refer to. The most intricate designs are only made by very few cue makers, and those made by hand are fewer still. By many people's measure, the level of intricate artwork measures the cue makers skill. However, some cue makers concentrate on craftsmanship of the cue, not artwork. Artwork on some of the "best" cues is performed by a craftsman other than the cuemaker. An example is Sandra Brady who is an expert ivory scrimshaw artist that has worked for cue manufacturers but does not make cues. "Best" can refer to satisfying hte customers neds in the design - Michael Wagner of Raven Custom Cues has spent many months working with a customer for acceptance of the design of a cue before even cutting a piece of wood. Each custom cue maker has their own strengths and weaknesses, and "best" will be determined by who meets your needs the best. Meet with your custom cue manufacturer and look at their work and how they will work with you before ordering a custom cue. However, the best custom cue manufacturers will charge a lot for even the simplest lookingof cues, so be prepared to "get what you pay for".

Who are Americas best custom pool cue makers?

Popular is a subjective word. There are dozens of excellent custom pool cue makers in the US, and depending upon what someone is looking for, some are better choices than others for many reasons. So, without listing at least 25 great custom cue makers, this answer is only a starting point, and is not meant to take away from the fantastic work performed by those not mentioned. If a fine handcrafted cue is wanted without any fancy work, Barringer Cues has been well known for decades, and also Mariposa. If fancy work is desired, the question now goes to how long do you want to wait and how fancy - Joss, Longoni, Pechauer, Raven, Schon, among many others, can provide the work. If true artistry is desired, the custom cue maker that works with an artist is needed - pdf Studios has been noted for this (several people worked to make the well known $50,000 Hustler cue), Richard Black is another, as is Paul Mottey. If you want the most popular, you may mean those that have sold the most, but this certainly does not make them better or more popular. Each custom cue maker has their own approach and only a handful can most likely fulfill your needs if you have a specific project in mind.

If all pool cues are made the same way why are some cue makers more popular than others?

This is a subjective question. For the average player, a well made production cue is certainly as good as a custom cue. However, the player cannot change the handling or feel of the cue, a big difference with a custom cue, which can be designed for exactly the handling, feel, weight distribution, and of course, looks, that the player wants. Most production cues are much more likely to warp and otherwise deteriorate than a custom cue. However, for the difference in price, it simply means the player should take very good care of the production cue, just as if it was a custom cue that could cost 10 times as much.

What cue did willie mosconi use?

For a while when he first got started playing, Even winning Championships he didnt own a personal cue. He would have to find a good House cue (usually brunswick cue since that's all that was readily available and they sanctioned all the tournaments) or he would have to borrow one. It wasnt until he had won his 2nd or 3rd championship that he got in touch with the custom cue maker that used to work for Brunsick before quitting and going out on his own. The Cue makers name was "Rambow". Ballabushka Cues and Rambow Cues were the best cue makers at the time. Mosconi used mainly the Rambow Cues and i believe he had a few Ballabushka Cues as well. After a few years went by there were literally Hundreds if not thousands of custom cue makers! When that happened its hard to say what kind he used. The person to answer this question best would be promoter and long time friend of Willie Mosconi, Charlie Ursetti. Hope this helps. Brad

Who is the best cue maker in the world?

This is a subjective question that cannot be answered - there is no "best" but there are many good cue makers. The best cue makers have attention to detail and while they may use computer aided cutting, turning, etc., the cue construction is essentially by hand. They make sure that wood goes through multiple drying stages and have other checks throughout the process that cannot be performed by any mass production of cues. There are dozens of high quality cue makers today, and none could be identified as "best", except by an individual personal opinion.

What is the current cue used by Mark Selby?

Professional billiards players like to have their own specific cues. Former British professional player Stephen Hendry does not currently use a specific stick as he is retired from his favorite game snooker.

Do they make pool cue for different size people?

Yes. A regulation pool cue is in any size from 40 inches and up, although most are 58 inches. If someone has specific needs, custom cues are not that expensive to have made.

How do you identify play cues?

I have to be honest and not quite sure what your question is here :) but here are some basics. Cues are either 1 or 2 pieces. A one piece cue is mainly used as a "house cue", the kind you see on the walls of bars that look like if you add a paddle at the end you could jump into a canoe. However most pool and billiards enthusiasts, both casual and higher level players use 2-piece cues as they are easier to transport and from a design and function they are better and there are more choices. Standard cue lengths are 58-60" with most people playing with 59". There are 5 main components to a cue: the butt, the joint, the shaft, the ferrule and the tip. There are what are called production cues which you will find on-line or in pool and billiard supply retail stores quite easily. Two piece production cues can range in price from under $20 all the way up to roughly $1000 or so. There are also "custom cues" made from individual cue makers. Custom Cues are a mix of art and function. To learn more about the work of custom cue makers I suggest you look at "The Blue Book of Cues". It is in it's 3rd edition and can be found easily for under $30. For those not familiar with this aspect of the sport it is a real eye opener. Custom cues can range in price from $200 to tens of thousands with the average being over $1000. Hope that helps :)

Where can one purchase custom pool cues?

A custom cue is typically handmade. It will have design, a handwrap, tip(s), and balance specifically requested by the person purchasing the cue. Even the joint work and butt are typically by request. Other choices include types of wood, types of inlays, shaft characteristics, length, and weight. A good custom cue can both add to a player's confidence, and can intimidate some opponents.
