Hasek will most likely after the 2007/2008 NHL season. Osgood has replaced Hased as the Wings starting goaltender in the 2008 playoffs, and the Wings have top prospect Jimmy Howard ready to back up Osgood next season. Hasek officially retired on Monday, June 9, 2008 (for the third time! - but I think he means it this time).
Both Patrick Roy and Dominik Hasek were exceptional goalies in their own right. Roy is known for his consistency and success in the playoffs, while Hasek was known for his unorthodox style and incredible athleticism. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and the style of play you prefer in a goalie.

Hasek played in four games in the 2008 playoffs, all of them in the first round against the Nashville Predators. He won the first two games of the series in Detroit, allowing only three total goals. Hasek did not perform as well in Game 3 as he gave up five goals in a loss. During Game 4, a 3-2 loss, Chris Osgood took over for Hasek, who did not play for the remainder of the playoffs. The move would prove to be pivotal as Osgood would help lead the team to its 11th Stanley Cup in franchise history.
