Anyone can make a case about any team being bad. Just depends on how hard one has to look.
The Carolina Panthers' problems almost stem from their inception, where big things were expected of them before the franchise took the field as a professional franchise in 1995. Along with their expansion counterparts of the same year, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Panthers have been underachievers. Yes, they did make a Super Bowl appearance in 2003, but they have not enjoyed sustained success as the Jaguars have.
The Panthers were also the first team to ever have a current player (WR Rae Carruth) convicted of a felony punishable with a lengthy prison term, when he murdered his girlfriend & attempted to kill her unborn child.
Plus, on the business side of the team, they have went back to the drawing board more times than they care to admit.
