It's usually because the player had a bad experience or lost respect for his former college. Some guys are just trying to be funny or creative (Jared Allen names a culinary academy, but he went to Idaho) which can hurt a college for recruiting purposes. Some people will tell you it's because that player didn't attend college, this is almost NEVER the case. NFL rules require players to have been out of high school a minimum of 3 years before being eligible to play in the NFL.
