Americans started playing football shortly after it was invented in 1863 by the English. They played it in all their schools and universities. However, most Americans do not find watching a game in person or on TV very interesting. There can be several reasons for this.
First, Soccer has very little contact. Even Baseball is considered boring to watch, but people still do because it is considered the national pastime.
Second, there is too little scoring during a game. The Americans are used to sports with more action and quickly lose interest.
Third, the Americans have no teams to root for. When watching a game, most fans need to have a team they want to win or lose to make it interesting. There are no teams that Americans know or care about.
Forth, Some Americans are deterred from the sport by public disapproval of it or "soccer hating". Some people will call the sport names, but for the most part it is out of public view and not generally discussed.
The us dislikes soccer because most Americans aren't very good at that sport. You got to admit that british and Mexicans are very good. And America only has one soccer team and other places have many.
In the United States football or in the U.S now days is called *soccer* is a sport not as recognized than the rest of the world. This is because England far back were the superior countries, the United States had not been discovered now. England had found a new sort of entertainment, they used this as foot-ball. The object of the game was to kick the ball into the opposing teams net without using your hands, (to a certain extent) After this England found a new sport that originated from football, called Rugby... They used the same terms as football, but instead you were able to use your hands. (All sport titles originated from organizations creating sports) Atfer Columbus's expedition people began to realize entertainment could highly be rised with sports... But they enjoyed the hand version of football better, *Rugby* and adopted it, and instead used the name football which came from the name of an organization that created Rugby. With all Americans loving their origins they began to use football as an American sport, with people still liking the real football better the sport had to be called something else, so they called it soccer, the name soccer came from another association who was widely known for sports. To this day, since America is so widely separated from football countries they have their sport... And we have ours.
Soccer is actually the worlds most popular sport with about 250 million players and more than a billion fans world wide. Even in the US where american football, baseball, and Basketball are more popular to watch, soccer is among the most popular sports for children to play.
