It wasn't a linebacker that was brought in from the stands to play, it was a running back, Bob Gladieux. He had been released from the team prior to the season starting. In the season opener, the Patriots had cut a man from the roster, andwere a man down. Gladieux was in the stands that day, and after a page over the public address system, he reported for duty. Gladieux went on to play for four seasons for the Patriots, from 1969 to 1972.
