The Phillies won the 2008 World Series because of their superior pitching staff. The Phillies had Brad Lidge who was absolutely incredible that season. They also had JC Romero, Chad Durbin, and Ryan Madsen was returning to his form. Not only did they have bullpen they had the starters. Cole Hamels were incredible in that series. Brett Myers was the only pitcher that got a lose in the series. And Moyer pitched incredible! Although now he just needs to retire. But the Phillies also had Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, and Pat Burrell. So they were the, I think, favorites.
The Phillies have won two World Series titles. 1980, and 2008.
