The Saints first ever draft choice came in the 1967 NFL draft and was running back Les Kelley out of the University of Alabama. He was switched to linebacker and played three seasons for the Saints, retiring after the 1969 season.

As of the 2010 NFL draft, if you listen to the media they'll say no, the Saints did not make a good pick. However, this has been said before when the Saints didn't pick someone the media approved of and in the end things turned out fine. When the Saints did pick someone that the football world couldn't stop raving about and the media couldn't get enough of, everyone acted surprised when he didn't exactly live up to their expectations. That said player being Reggie Bush.
