Who is the worlds best AFL player ever in history?

As in most sports, there has been much speculation over who is the current best, or who WAS the Best in history, and there can be no definitive answer in either case.

However, what can clearly be stated is that Haydn Bunton Snr, at 6 medals - three VFL Brownlow medals and three WAFL Sandover medals, won more state / national Best and fairest awards for his football than any other player in history. The nearest to him is Russell Ebert who won 4 Magarey medals in the major South Australian league in the latter half of the 20th Century.

If one is to disregard medals and reflect on the major league players from Australia's major league - the VFL before 1990 and the AFL since that time, quite some number of names come up for consideration for the Best of all time; the major among those would probably be:

Haydn Bunton, Leigh Matthews, Gary Ablett Snr, Laurie Nash, John Coleman, Graham Farmer, Tony Lockett, Wayne Carey, Jason Dunstall, Michael Tuck and Darrell Baldock, among others.
