There have been many great football managers through the years. Miguel Munoz, Arrigo Sacchi, Luiz Fellipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink, Brian Clough and many, many, many more. However, it is hard to say who is the greatest.

Arsene Wenger has done amazing things at Arsenal FC. Ranked above managers who have won more and with very good reason. A champion of style and sporting beauty and, most remarkably, a football man you can take at his word. There is not a single club that has not coveted him in the last ten years. His footballing brain has helped Arsenal become one of the best teams of all time and play some of the best football in Europe.

Sir Alex Ferguson, like Arsene Wenger, has a very good knowledge of football. After knocking over the Old Firm in Scotland, he has built a modern-day monster out of Manchester United and has done so with teams of flair and adventure. A giant of football and yet his CV will always have an unmissable hole without that second European Cup.

Rinus Michels, the Dutchman who died in 2005, was named coach of the century by FIFA in 1999. For once, that organisation knew what it was doing. The originator of Total Football, Michels won the European Cup with Ajax, the Spanish league with Barcelona and Euro 88 with Holland. He should also have won the 1974 World Cup. What's more, you would have paid Wembley prices to watch his teams.

It is very hard to say who is the greatest football manager of all time. In my opinion, I would say both Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson are the greatest managers of all time. Even though Sir Alex is more successful, he has been a manager for over 35 years while Wenger has been a manager for 25 years. They are both widely known around the world as great managers. I think anyone would say that it would be between them as the greatest managers in the world, and ever!

This is very difficult to measure, as some managers have been managing for decades and have had an opportunity to amass a lot of trophies (Alex Fergusson), whereas younger managers who are considered to be giants of the sport have only had the opportunity to win a handful (José Mourinho, André Villas-Boas). There's also the issue of the relative difficulty of each trophy - not every continental champions' league is considered as prestigious as the next. For example, winning Oceania's Champions' League isn't nearly as prestigious as winning Europe's. In other cases, a manager can be known as being extremely good at taking mediocre teams and "fixing them", propelling them into the spotlight and then leaving to join another team in trouble (José Couceiro, Domingos Paciência).
