Such a label is a matter of personal opinion and a comparison between positions cannot be made easily; a better question would be "who is the best hockey player at XYZ position", and even then would be highly debatable.

Actually, in my opinion the best Field Hockey player is Teun de Nooijer who is the captain of the Dutch Hockey Team, but you may have your own opinion.

I'm going to assume that you are talking about the NHL here, as there are many other leagues in North America and Europe. The record is held by Wayne Gretzky with 894 regular season goals and 122 playoff goals for a combined total of 1016 goals for his NHL career.
