Ben Roethlisberger is by far the best quarterback since Terry Bradshaw. He already has 2 Super Bowl rings. Ben is second on the Steelers in career passing yards, touchdowns and completions. He has the best completion percentage and passer rating in Steeler history. He is expected to be the best Steelers quarterback by the time his career ends.
Roethlisberger only 28, has achieved much more with much less talent around him that Bradshaw did. Compare Joe Greene, Mel Blount, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Franco Harris, and Mike Webster to Hines Ward, James Harrison, and Troy Polamalu. Bradshaw had much more talent on his team.
With a career passer rating of under 71, Bradshaw had one of the lowest passer ratings for a Superbowl winning quarterback. He ended his career with 2 more touchdowns that interceptions.
However, Roethlisberger is into to much legal trouble that sometimes limits his play time.
Terry Bradshaw's last season as the Steelers starting QB was 1982 and he retired after the 1983 season. He played backup to Cliff Stoudt in the 1983 season and Mark Malone was the Steelers starting QB in the 1984 season with David Woodley being the backup.
Terry Bradshaw, Neil O'Donnell, and Ben Roethlisberger.
Joe Gilliam was the Quarterback prior to Terry Bradshaw, and he wore number 17. Before Gilliam and Bradshaw was Terry Hanratty and he wore number 5. Dick Shiner was the starting QB in 1969, the year before Bradshaw was drafted. Also playing in '69 was Terry Hanratty who was a rookie in 1969. Joe Gilliam was not drafted by the Steelers until 1972.Terry HanrattyTerry Bradshaw's first season with the Steelers was 1970. For the 1969 season, the Steelers had Terry Hanratty, Dick Shiner, and Kent Nix as quarterbacks on their roster.
The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Minnesota Vikings, 16-6, in Super Bowl IX. The Steelers starting QB was Terry Bradshaw and the Vikings starting QB was Fran Tarkenton.
He was a 4 time superbowl winning QB for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He turned the steelers into a dominating force in the NFL creating a dynasty yet to be repeated in the NFL. And he is a hell of a funny guy. Love ya TERRY!
Tommy Maddox was the Steelers starting quarterback before Ben Roethlisberger.
Mike Kruczek
Terry Bradshaw and Big Ben
He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I believe he also played in the USFL later toward the end of his career. He was replaced by Terry Bradshaw as starting QB in Pittsburgh.
Bernard Patrick Holm (nicknamed Tony Holm) was the first quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. At the time he was their QB they were known as the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the punter and the quarterback and threw for 2 touchdowns and 13 interceptions and lasted only one season.Angelo Augustine Brovelli was the Pittsburgh Steelers first QB from 1933-1934.
Terry Bradshaw was the QB for the 4 SuperBowl wins in the '70's (painful for me as a Cowboys fan). Neil O'Donnell was the QB for the SuperBowl loss in 1995 (a much happier game for a Cowboy fan). Ben Roethlisberger was the QB for the SuperBowl win in 2005. He was the youngest QB ever to win a SB although he had a very poor game statistically (lowest QB rating in a SB by a winning WB).
Troy Polamalu who signed a $30.18 Million dollar contract for a 4-year extension on July 23, 2007.
