Of all time, just about all consider Michael Jordan the best there ever was.

Of the later years (2000's and forward), the best has been narrowed down to either Kobe Bryant (best years during the 2000's) and LeBron James (best years in late 2000's, still to come in the 2010's).

There is the best guard, forward, center, passer, rebounder, shooter, etc. So best is just an opinion. You could say who is the best overall and even then you would get at least 10 names on the list. The very best I ever say in my 64 years is Pete Maravich.
