It is thought that cricket was a game made by the knights in the 14th or 15th century. It evolved from a crude game which involved throwing severed heads at someone who would then swing at it with a club. But this answer is better fitted to the question of 'what is the origins of cricket?' your question, I believe cannot be answered properly, why is anything made? The reason behind things being made is intention and I'm afraid that intention is not a thing expressed by many humans and so you would have to ask the person who made it. And because there was not just one person who made it there are many intentions and therefore many different reasons.

The first definite mention of the game was in a statement during a court case in 1589. John Derrick stated that when he was a schoolboy at the Free School in Guildford he played 'creckett' with his friends, on a disputed piece of land in Holy Trinity Parish in Guildford. This would mean that cricket was invented and played round about 1550.
Instead of having three stumps and bails at each end they had two sticks then one placed on top at each end. If the ball were to pass through between the two sticks without disturbing the top stick the batsman would remain 'not out'. The middle stump was introduced in the 1780s. The batsmen wore no protective clothing as they do today. The bats were made of English willow, straight at the beginning then curved at the end. For the grip they used strips of leather tied together on the handle. The first cricket balls were made of leather with a stuffing of cloth, hair or feathers. Other early cricket balls were of hand-carved solid wood, some of which would have been covered with leather. Later the solid wood core gave way to a combination of cork and wool. Such mixed cores became known as 'quilts'.
Cricket was introduced to other countries by English settlers and the military , with matches recorded in the 18th century not just in parts of the British Empire, but also in places like Paris and New York. The first tour of English players took place in 1859 to the USA and by the end of the 19th century matches known as Test matches where taking place between England and Australia and England and South Africa.

The origins of the game of cricket are lost in the mists of time. There is a reference in the household accounts of King Edward I in 1300 of a game much like cricket being played in Kent.

The English game originated in the sheep-raising country of the Southeast, where the short grass of the pastures made it possible to bowl or roll a ball of rags or wool at a target. That target was usually the wicket gate of the sheep paddock, which was defended with a bat in the form of a shepherd's crooked staff.

In reality, there were actually a large number of different games played under a variety of local rules. The idea of a single pastime evolving seamlessly into the sport we know and love is appealing but not very likely. However, hitting a ball with a stick does seem to have been a popular pastime. Whatever the variety or origins of games played, records show that Edward II wielded a bat, and it was suggested that Oliver Cromwell also played the game. In fact, "bat" is an old English word that means stick or club. The earliest types of bats were much like a hockey stick-long, heavy clubs curved outward toward the bottom. The design of the bat reflected the type of Bowling that was prevalent at the time-fast, underarm bowls rolled along the ground. By the eighteenth century, the bat had developed into a heavier, longer, curved version of our modern bat-the handle and blade were carved out of a single piece of wood.
