Netball was invented because Basketball was a man's sports and woemn couldn't play because they became 'sweaty'. So they invented netball to combat this. Women didn't move with the ball therefore not running around and not becoming sweaty. They didn't imagine that it would take off quite so much and become one of the worlds most recognised sports.
Netball originated in America. Formally known as 'women's basketball', netball quickly turned into a popular sport for women of all ages all over the world. Netball started off in 1895 and has progressed as a great non-contact sport and is now played by over 20 million people in 70 different countries.
It originated in the United States as women's basketball and is now a major sport in Australia and New Zealand.

nope netball is not classified an Olympic sport
Netball is not seen as a real sport because it is based on another sport, its brother basketball. Netball originated from basketball not that long a time ago, which is another reason why people don't regard netball as a sport. However, that way of thinking may change very soon when netball becomes more popular. Also, netball is a sport played only by girls which restricts the popularity. If netball was played by boys than it may become part of the Olympics.
