It has happened in three calendar years:
1969 -- The New York Jets won Super Bowl III in January; the New York Mets won the World Series in October.
1979 -- The Pittsburgh Steelers won Super Bowl XIII in January; the Pittsburgh Pirates won the World Series in October.
2004 -- The New England Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVIII in January; the Boston Red Sox won the World Series in October.
I'm pretty sure its both. I've heard them call it world champions and super bowl champions on sportscenter but i couldn't figure out which one it was. But i just call it super bowl champs but.... i have heard it on sportcenter called world champions.
Minneapolis in 1991
San Diego in 1998
World series masters suck
Pittsburgh steelers
SAINTS!!! who dat!!!
I will answer this two ways: 1) The first city to have a team win a Super Bowl and a World Series in the same calender year was New York. The New York Jets won Super Bowl III, played January 12, 1969 and the New York Mets won the 1969 World Series. 2) The first city to have a team win a Super Bowl and World Series in each sport's respective season was Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Pirates won the 1979 World Series and the Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl played for the 1979 season, that being Super Bowl XIV played on January 20, 1980. The New England Patriots and the Boston Red Soxs both won their respective championships in 2004 being the first to do so.
After the American and National Leagues expanded in the early 1960s, that would be the Arizona Diamondbacks who won the World Series in their 4th season. Second is the Florida Marlins who won the World Series in their 5th season.
16-0 Super Bowl Champs baby! Note: Their final season record was 8 wins and 8 losses. They are not in the play-offs.
This year's winner will be referred to as 2005 Superbowl champs, due to the fact that the season was played during the 05 calender year.
Cowboys have a Super Bowl, which is for FOOTBALL. World Series is BASEBALL
For the sport's 'season', that would be Pennsylvania with the Philadelphia Phillies winning the 2008 World Series and the Pittsburgh Steelers winning Super Bowl XLIII, the championship for the 2008 NFL season (although the Super Bowl was played in 2009). For the same calender year, that would be Massachusetts in 2004 when the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series and the Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVIII played February 1, 2004.
