The Super Bowl was never played in the astrodome. Two super bowls have been played in houston, in 1974 at rice stadium and in 2004 at reliant stadium. Why super bowl 8 in 1974 was played at rice stadium and not the astrodome when it had been open for a decade I have no clue.
