The first All-Ireland Senior Football Final was played on the 29th of April, 1888. It was played in Clonskeagh in Dublin and it was won by Commericals, representing Limerick, who beat Young Irelands, representing Louth, by a score of 1 - 4 to 0 - 3. Although played in 1888, it was the final for the 1887 championship.

It was played in Birr in County Offaly and it was won by Thurles, representing Tipperary, who beat Meelick, representing Galway, by a score of 1 - 1 to 0 - 0. Although played in 1888, it was the final for the 1887 championship.
