Modern tennis was born in England in 19th century.
In the year of 1873 Walter Wingfield from United Kingdom invented a version of "Real Tennis" that can be played outdoors on a lawn.
In the year of 1874 Clark brothers(Joseph and Clarence), take one of Walter Wingfield's boxes to United States, leading to the first lawn tennis tournament in the USA ground later that year.
Tennis began in England. I truthfully don't know when, or by who, just that it was invented in England.

Rod Laver Arena is a famous tennis facility in Melbourne, Australia. It was named after the Australian tennis star Rod Laver.
The game of table tennis has its roots in lawn tennis. When lawn tennis became very popular in the 1870s & 1880s, game makers tried to emulate its' success by developing indoor versions of the game. David Foster of England introduced the first action game of tennis on a table in 1890.
