In order to reach the Super Bowl a team must get into the playoffs. In order to get into the playoffs, a team must either win their division or finish with one of the top two records after the division leaders are determined. The 1 and 2 seeds of each conference, the NFC and AFC each get 1st round buys while the 3 seed plays the 6 seed and the 4 seed plays the 5 seed. The team must win until they are the only team left in their conference. The two conference leaders then play each other in the last game of the year, The Super Bowl. The winner are then the champions of the league.
The team who last won the super bowl would be the new york giants in the year 2011.
Packers
San Francisco won the 1985 Super Bowl at Stanford Stadium, and they were the host team.
As of 2009, the last NFC team to win the Super Bowl is the New York Giants. They beat the AFC champions New England Patriots 17-14.
The New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl in 2010.
thePittsburgh Steelers have had 14 super bowl appearances in the last 20 years
Since the NFL went to 6 playoff teams from each conference in the 1990 season, the 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers (who won Super Bowl XL), are the only #6 seed team to win a Super Bowl. Next weekend there are two #6 seeds playing in the conference championship games, the Packers in the NFC and the Jets in the AFC. Maybe we'll see a second #6 seed win a Super Bowl?
