There are actually two franchises who hold he title of "oldest continually operating Baseball franchise", the Chicago Cubs & what is currently the Atlanta Braves (formerly the Boston then Milwaukee Braves). Both were established in 1876.

U.S.  The oldest American sports franchise to play continuously is the Atlanta Braves (Boston  1871 to 1952, Milwaukee 1953 to 1965, Atlanta ever since).  The oldest American sports franchise is the Chicago  Cubs (under various nicknames) since 1870 (but they did not play in 1872 or 1873 because of the Chicago fire of 1872).  Claims made for Cincinnati are incorrect as the original club went bankrupt and most of its players moved to Boston after the bankrupt club went back to amateur play. The current Reds are very old, dating to 1882 and the old American Association, joining the National League for the 1890 season.  INTERNATIONAL  Mitcham Cricket Club (England) has played since 1685.
