For their first eleven seasons the Suns had no mascot, but after that they tried to make a sunflower their mascot. It did not last long.
The Gold Coast Football Club, commonly known as the Gold Coast Suns, was established in 2009 and is part of the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded by the Gold Coast Football Club Ltd, with significant involvement from former AFL player and coach, and the club’s inaugural CEO, Travis Auld. The Suns began competing in the AFL in the 2011 season, aiming to promote Australian rules football in the Gold Coast region.

As of October 2023, the Gold Coast Suns have not won any premierships in the AFL. The club, established in 2009, has faced challenges in achieving success in the league since its inception. They have made finals appearances but have yet to secure a championship title.

Guy "Bluey" McKenna (born 11 May 1969) is a current and inaugural Australian rules football coach for the Gold Coast Football Club. McKenna as a player was a West Coast Eagles premiership player and former captain for the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
