Laws state the posts shall be no less than 3.4 meters from ground level and the cross bar shall be 3 meters from the ground. How ever the nights of each upright are usually well above 3.4 meters

Do you mean the length of the field? Or the width of the posts? The pitch length must not exceed 100m. The posts are generally 3m apart with the crossbar being 3m high.

The width between the posts must be 5.6 metres. From the ground to the cross bar must be 3metres to the TOP edge of the cross bar and the total height of the upright bar must exceed 3 metres
