Nose tackle/nose guard defensive tackle & defensive end. Nose tackle or nose guard same position it when lineman gets in stance in front of center or slightly off center. Defensive tackle usually lines up anywhere between centers outside shoulder & offensive tackles inside shoulder & defensive ends usually line up on either offensive tackles or tight ends outside shoulder.
In American football, the defensive tackles are the two interior lineman on the defensive line.
On running plays (by the opposing offence), there job is to push into the backfield, and either disrupt the running back's running lane, or (if they can) make a tackle in the backfield. On passing plays they try to push up the middle and either put pressure on the quarterback (although most quarterback sacks tend to come from the defensive ends, or the linebackers) or get their hands up to try and deflect passes.
If there is only one interior lineman on the defensive line, he is usually called a "nose tackle" rather than a defensive tackle.
Wikipedia has a good article on the position (including diagrams): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defensive_Tackle
A D-Lineman tries to go through the O-Line to sack, pressure into throwing a bad pass, or fumbling the quarterback or stopping a runningback from breaking a big play
This is how it goes:

OT: Offensive tackle
OG: Offensive guard
C: Center
