Some are made of synthetic rubber. The size four, hand-stitched item features a seamless inner bladder made of a rubber molded material. Company logos can be printed on the front panel. Items made of PVC are also available. Other materials include: waterproof, synthetic leather soccer balls with latex rubber bladders.
As an important side note, the volleyball has an air nozzle on the outisde that makes the volleyball heavier at this location. So when attempting a float serve, start with the nozzle facing down because the ball will fight to keep that part of it facing down. That is why the ball "floats" during a float serve.
Most quality volleyball's consist of three primary levels of construction. The first level is a rubber bladder. Essentially, this rubber bladder is the same material of a standard bike inner tube. Usually the bladder is then either floating, partially attached or totally attached to a cloth layer. This cloth layer is made out of material that looks much like cheese cloth and is sealed with a rubber like glue. The outer most layer, shell, is made of leather panels, normally 18, which are glued to the the cloth layer.
