The school should carry supplemental insurance coverage (depending on your state it may be mandatory) to cover the costs of any injury. If it is a minor injury the athletic coach will "field treat" it, and you will be notified. If it requires immediate treatment, you will be called to take him to seek medical attention. In the event of a serious injury, he will be transported by ambulance to the nearest ER where the coach will have authority to give permission for treatment if you have not arrived yet.

If you are asking how you should react.... I can't tell you. But kids get hurt playing sports. Its normal.
