An isolation or "iso" is when the ball is worked around on offense until the attacking team gets the most favorable match-up (usually with a short pole defender).

The rest of the team will usually clear out of the dodgers way so he's got a clearer path to the goal.

Iso's can be done from the top of the restraining box, the sideline (or goalline extended) or behind the cage (or X).
