Netball DOES use a net attached to the goldpost rim. In some Caribbean countries the game is played without it due to vandalism and low funding for sport. The lack of a net does not hinder the game in any way.
Netball was originally made from the game Basketball and was named "netball" so that ladies could play a different style of basketball.
netball first came around when women felt that it was unfair that they could not play basketball so they adapted the game and made it just for women.
