James Riley was the first player to do it back in the early 1900s; he was a part of the first American hockey team to win the Stanley Cup in 1917 with the Seattle Metropolitans. He also played second base in the major league.

Tom Glavine, who is one of only 23 pitchers, and 5 left handers, to have 300 wins in the major league, was also drafted by the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL in the 4th round of the NHL entry draft in 1984, the same year, he was taken in the 2nd round of the major league amateur Baseball draft.
