There are two main ones. During your service if you step on or over the line then a foul is called. Also,if you don't release the ball 5 seconds after the ref's whistle to begin the service you are called a foul. When the foul is called for both of these errors, the other team gains possession of the ball. Also there is another more complicated rule. If you throw the ball in the air and realize it is a bad toss you don't want to hit then you are allowed to let the ball hit the ground, but only ONCE per that rotation of serves. The next time that you come around the court to serve, you may drop it only once again. Another foul called is when you serve before the ref's whistle. Depending on the ref, you will either get a second chance or the other team gains possession of the ball.
Actually they are no types of personal fouls in a Basketball game, they are only diferent types of fouls, a personal foul is one kind of foul in basketball like charging, screening, illegal use of hands etc.
There are a lot of fouls that can happen in volleyball, but here are some of the ones I see happen most often.
-double hit
-four hits
-foot fault
-net touch
-lift
-push
A double hit is when a player hits the ball two times in a row. Four hits is when a team goes over the three hit maximum. A foot fault is either when a player's foot goes over the service line during serving, or when a player's foot goes over the half court line. Net touch is when a player touches the net. A lift is when a player does an open hand bump. Pretty much when you have your hands open, palms up and push the ball up with your hands. A push, is then when a player tries to set the ball over the net, but their palms are open. Hope this helps, but always review the rules for your own division because THEY CAN CHANGE!
There is no such thing as fouls in volleyball. Well, a player can get a foot foul, and that is when the players foot touches or crosses serving line. You can get as many of those as you want. There really isn't any fouls in volleyball like there are in basketball

Volleyball players do not get "fouls" because it is a non-contact sport; however, if a volleyball player was to interfere with the other team, become mouthy etc. they would receive either a yellow card or a red card with possible dismissal from the match.

In most leagues it is 5 fouls until you are out. However, in some tournaments they can make up whatever rules they want so any number of fouls. But basically it is 5 fouls. -Kristen (I have played basketball for 6 years)
Team fouls are reset to 3. Personal fouls remain the same
