There's plenty of risks of playing on a frozen pitch. One could be a player committing himself to a slide tackle, not only would the frozen ground possibly cut the players leg but also the player getting tackled could fall and injure themselves pretty badly. Also goalkeepers would be unable to dive, for obvious reasons. Overall games are usually cancelled because of the dangers it has towards players.
