Well, each position on the court has a number 1 through 6, since there are six players on the court at a time. They look like this:

There are also different names for players' positions. Some of these are setter, middle hitter, outside hitter, left side hitter, receiver, and libero.
Well, it's kind of hard to explain, but the positions are not hard to learn, it depends on how many players are in the team.

Volleyball does not have bases . We do have positions though . Players may not switch positions without a substitution before the ball is served . After the ball leaves the server's hands the players are aloud to move wherever they wish on the court . But until the ball is hit they must stay in their positions without overlapping .
On a normal volleyball court: 6 players beach volleyball: 2 players

Playing with four people is not regulation volleyball so you can really set it up however you want.
With indoor volleyball its 6 players for each team on the court. If its outdoor volleyball its 2 players per team.
It is 6-2 players serve receive formation. A great opportunity for players to experience different skills of each positions.
