Taller players generally do not accelerate well due to their higher center-of-gravity and will be at a disadvantage in short distances sprints. They do however, have a longer stride and, over a long run (> 10m), may arrive first to a contested ball. They also have the obvious benefit of extra height in a jump ball situation.

These abilities cause taller players to be defenders, while the shorter, more agile players, favor the forward position.
