The only things you should be careful about is: * Colliding with another player * Pay attention so you don't get hit in the face * If you are out of shape, BE CAREFUL volleyball is challenging but it's really fun too. The most widespread injury is the sprained ankle, usually after coming down awkwardly from a jump, sometimes landing on another player's foot. After this, knee pains are common, especially with players who jump high, and older players. Shoulder problems are the main issue for big hitters. This is due to build up of scar tissue, and lack of rest to allow shoulder muscles to repair. Achilles tendons can also be vulnerable, especially with "weekend warriors", and tears or even ruptures are not unknown. For social volleyball players, excess alcohol consumption often leads to brain damage. This is pronounced amongst beach volleyballers.
