Messi is able to pull out his greatest tricks and pieces of magic, when his team most needs it. Not only are his goals against top opposition (Arsenal, Madrid, United -2 CL Finals) but the quality of his performances are unrivalled by any other player of this generation. In the 5-0 demolition against Madrid, he didn't score, but was still the best player on the pitch. His dribbling, acceleration and the ability he has to slalom past experienced and international defenders is what ultimately makes him stand out. On most days he is unstoppable, and on every other day he is unplayable. In the past two-three years critics, pundits and ex players have been swayed by his brilliance, with many of the opinion that there is no real contest between both footballers. Ronaldo maybe a great player in his own right, but messi is the clear no1. Based on performances, trophies and the sheer excitement he has brought to the game. Not since the days of Maradona, has there been a player who could dance his way round a pitch, matching artistry with sheer excellence. Perhaps the greatest testament to Messi is the esteemed company in which he is often held. Ronaldo is always compared to Messi. Messi however is compared to the great pantheons of football (Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Zidane). That in itself, says more than enough.
