Well cricket field is usually measured from the center of the pitch to be used for the match, the distance normally varies from 75 meters to 85 meters in most of the international grounds. Cricket grounds are unlike soccer fields where we have a definite measurement of the playing area, usually cricket grounds have variable distance to each side of the pitch i.e; a boundary maybe 75 meters away on off side and 80 meters on leg side.

Where to mark the lines on a cricket pitch?

First, start with your two wicket lines(where the stumps are placed). They are to be 22yds (66ft) apart with three stumps at one end in line with the three at the other. Then paint the bowling crease, 4ft in front of the wicket line, and should extend 4ft either side of the return crease. If you need wide lines for a one-day match, they are made 75cm from the outside of off stump. Last, but not least are the danger area markings. These are to be only 2 inches long and are place 1ft either side of middle stump going backwards from the bowling crease and 5ft in front of the popping crease on either side of the pitch.

What are the dimensions of a cricket pitch?

The full length of a cricket pitch, that is from one set of stumps to another, is 20.12 meters, or 22 yards. However, most pitches have an additional metre or so of additional turf wicket preceding the bowling crease (a minimum distance of 122 cm), which increases the total length to somewhere close to 22.5 metres. The full breadth of a cricket pitch is 305 centimetres, or 3 yards 12 inches, however the popping crease extends further from the turf part of the wicket by an additional two feet, or 0.61 metres.
