You should know that every sport has its risks. Players are often hit with the ball, causing bruises. Broken noses and other bones have also occurred. Overall, softball is a very fun sport and fear of injury should not stop anyone from playing. As long as proper safety procedures are followed, such as wearing a helmet while batting and a face mask while pitching, injuries should not be too serious.

A safety base is used for what its name implies. To give more safety to the players, a safety base is located in foul territory. The batter must run through this base, leaving the other base for the defensive fielder to make a play on the ball. Usually the bases that the batter has to run through is orange and the base that the fielders use is white. At all other times in the games, besides the initial run to first base, the runner must keep in contact with the white base to remain safe.

The safety precautions in softball are regulated by the rules. Every batter must wear a helmet with a cage in front of the face. Every batter must use a legal bat (umpires are supposed to check these bats before the game). There are penalties against players for running into other players. Also, when wearing shorts girls are advised to wear sliding shorts and knee-pads to decrease the amount of sliding injuries. Also, a lot of leagues do not allow metal cleats due to the decrease in safety for the players.

Softball can be dangerous it just depends on how tough the other team is. Its just like any other sport. you can get hit and suffer sever damage. Some one did a test and out a Baseball and a softbal in front of glass and they threw it and the baseball bounced of and the softball broke it.

  • A ground ball can bounce up and hit you in the face, heart, head, chin, eye, protective area, stomach, leg, ankle, hand, finger, thumb, wrist, thigh, or hip.
  • You could collide with another player on a fly ball
  • When batting you could get beaned with a pitched ball
  • If you catch you could get hit with a foul ball, or bat
  • A coach could slap you on the back and you could get bruised
  • If you are not looking you could get a line drive to the face

However, I play baseball and I've only got a few bumps and bruises. If you are a worried mother, let your child play baseball and have a fun time.

Historically, baseball is the sport with the least amount of contact in it.

The main safety concern when using a batting cage is the ball because it fires at speeds up to 100 mph. Other than that, a person might have to worry about fouling a ball off their leg, which can cause fractures.
