Boys lacrosse, you have pads, but for a very good reason. Boys are stronger, sometimes have anger management issues, and love to hit things. Thus the pads. If boys did not have pads..... quite a few people would have broken ribs, let me tell ya.....
Girls lacrosse (i play it) is slightly less dangerous. It is against the rules to hit someone in the body with your stick. Still, girls have less padding, so the ball could be flying and hit someone on the head. Or, someone could "accidentally" smack you in the stomach with their sticks or dig their cleats into your toes and shins. Bottom line, this sport is dangerous. My brother broke his arm and dislocated his elbow playing lacrosse. (cyclones do not play around, ya know!) Lacrosse is totally worth it though. Play on!
It is rare, but yes deaths do sometimes occur. Like in most sports, physical activity puts a lot of stress on the heart, and at times athletes can die of heart failure or dehydration. Lacrosse presents a unique danger, most specifically for goalies. If a goalie gets hit in the chest hard enough with a ball, it can stop his heart. This has happened in a few high school settings, and a set of parents of a goalie that passed away started a national outcry for A.E.D. machines to be on the sidelines of every lacrosse game
Common injuries in lacrosse are broken fingers, arms, legs, and other bones. Another common injury include concutions.
