Is it illegal to carry a paintball gun in public because I'm going on the silver comet trail in GA and if something happens I want to intimidate the attacker?
I'm not too sure, it is classed as a gun so.... Ask the police. Add: Most states ban a loaded paintball gun (gassed up) unless it is within a field/outdoor location or location for paintballing. I would make sure it is unloaded and in a case of some kind. This also goes for BB guns and airsoft.

Paintball is more popular than Airsoft but more young kids play Airsoft because it's not as dangerous. Paintball players normally start at around 13 while Airsoft players normally start around 11. Airsoft is something that you can do in the back yard, while Paintball is something you normally need to go to a place that hosts Paintball games for.

Paintball hurts MUCH more than airsoft. The reason that Paintball hurts more than Airsoft is because the speed of the paintball is faster and the mass is also larger. Take an Airsoft BB and a paintball and look at the difference in size. Now, when you figure that Paintball markers have much greater speed than an Airsoft gun, you will find that Paintball will and should hurt more.

I think the ball is still live, because the attacker kept the ball in play by hitting it.

This is totally an opinion question. A mechanical marker is nice because there is no need for batterys and it is truly a bit of paintball history. Electronic markers are great because they are faster, allow more modes, and are the future of paintball.
