Baseball was not in the "original" Greek Olympics because it wasn't invented yet. It also did not appear when the games were in Greece in 1896. However, in 2004 when they were in Greece, baseball was a sport there. Furthermore, the Greeks had a team, as the host country they were entitled to that right. However, since baseball is not popular in Greece, the IOC ruled that anyone who had a parent or grandparent who was a Greek citizen could play for the Greeks, thus allowing players such as Clay Bellinger to play for the Greek National team.
