A dual meet in cross country is a race between 2 schools or teams. These 2 teams compete head-to-head to see who has the better team.

Well, honey, in a Cross Country meet, teams are scored based on the placement of their top five runners. The team with the lowest total score wins, just like in golf but with more sweating. So, basically, the faster your top runners are, the better chance your team has of coming out on top.

At just about every official cross country meet I've been to it's either On your marks, get set, then the gun, or just Runners take your marks, then the gun.
