There are nine (9) players on defense in a Baseball game. It is not called a match. These players are also called fielders. A number is assigned to each position. In order they are, (1)Pitcher, (2)Catcher, (3)First Baseman, (4)Second Baseman, (5)Third Baseman, (6)Shortstop, (7)Left Fielder, (8)Center Fielder and finally (9)Right Fielder. Whether you play as an 8 year old in little league or as a major leaguer the rules are pretty much the same.
