There are usually 24 people on the field during a game of field hockey. They include the eleven players from each team (one of whom is normally a goalkeeper) and the two umpires. This number can change at different times for various reasons: during the halftime break the substitutes may join the others on the field or everyone may go off into a dugout; one player may leave the field for a drink before their sub gets on; and if there is an injury, the coach, manager and first aid team can enter the field to assist the injured players.
11 players on field per team at any given time, but it is permissable to have up to 5 extra players as subsitutes on and off at any time.
