Do southern states have more division 1A football championships?

Listed below and to the right is the order of conferences with the number of college football national championships in parentheses.* Big 12 - (16)* SEC -- (15)* Big Ten -- (13)* ACC -- (9)* Pac-10 -- (4)* Big East -- (3)But, here's some caveats:The above list only includes college football championships from 1936 to present. Importantly, it only includes one champion each year (official NCAA selector). As you know, college football does not have a playoff system as most other college sports do. So, traditionally, champions were crowned by various coaches and sports writers polls. More often then not, various polls named more than one team as the champion. For the purposes of this page, our list of football national championships by conference only counted the College Football National Champion as named by the Associated Press (AP) (1936 - 1997); and from 1998 on - the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Champ. So, for instance, the list above only includes 6 Alabama football national championships. Of course, as discussed at Best All-Time NCAA College Football Program, depending on which polls you count, Alabama could be credited with up to 12 college football national championships. One more caveat -- we included National Championships won by schools that are now part of a particular conference. So it based on current affiliation, not historical affiliation. This favors the Big Ten because we are counting (for them) 2 NC's by Penn State ('82 & '86) that of course Penn State won before they joined the Big Ten.For more comprehensive information check out this pdf: College Football National Champions (prepared by Tex Noel of 1st-N-Goal). It has a listing of every college football team that ever won a National Championship from 1936 on -- and includes official selectors as well as total selectors -- and much, much more. And, Tex created more statistical info about NCAA College Football National Championship teams since 1992, organized by conference at National Champsionship Teams By Conference. You can read more of Tex' stats at SEC Football Statistics and even contact him via a form on that page. So, picking the Best or Top All-Time NCAA College Football Championship Conference is really more of an art than a science. It is quite subjective. See SEC vs Big Ten Debate for more about the subjectivity of this debate. Also, the list above shows the Big 12 with most all-time football championships. This is largely due to the great teams Oklahoma and Nebraska had over the years. Of course, most of those championships came before the Big 12 was even formed. Nebraska and Oklahoma were both in the Big 8 Conference. The Big 12 has only been in existence for 12 years. The Southeastern (SEC), by contrast, began in 1932, so each of its 14 championships was earned by a team that was in the SEC at the time, and still is.Also, if you look at more recent college football history - the SEC leads the pack. Since 1990, the SEC has more NCAA football championships than any other conference with six.Since the BCS system began in 1998, the SEC leads with 4 BCS Championships. And, they've won it each of the past 2 years and 3 of the past 5 years. You can read more about most of those games at Biggest All-Time SEC Football Victory. The ACC and Big 12 both have 2 BCS Championships. The Pac-10 and Big Ten both have 1.OK, all of those caveats add up to one thing:THE SEC IS REALLY THE TOP ALL-TIME NCAA COLLEGE FOOTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CONFERENCE. What college team has the most football championships?

For Division I - Football Bowl Subdivision (most commonly thought of as College Football around the nation)...Officially the NCAA does not officially name a National Champion for their Football Bowl Subdivision "FBS" (formerly known as Division I-A). They rely on outside organizations to name a National Champion. Currently that organization is the Bowl Championship Series. The teams with the most BCS National Titles are the Which_NCAA_football_team_has_won_the_most_National_Championships_in_modern_footballof Florida and Louisiana State University (LSU) with two. The BCS has been around for 11 years, so if that is what you would consider "modern era" that is your easy answer.Other than that, really the only thing you can do is look at All Time National Championships. Before the BCS, there were a plethora of National polls and rankings, so there was no clear national champion every single year before 1998.As for all time champions... Alabama claims the most all-time with 12. Notre Dame and Michigan both claim 11 andhttp://wiki.answers.com/Q/Which_NCAA_football_team_has_won_the_most_National_Championships_in_modern_football#, Oklahoma, Southern Cal all claim 7.

Which NCAA football team has won the most National Championships in modern football in the last thirty years?

Alabama claims the most all-time with 12. Notre Dame and Michigan both claim 11 and Ohio State, Oklahoma, Southern Cal all claim 7.For National Collegiate Athletic Association Divisions not including Division I - FBS (most of which are not commonly considered as college football on the same level as Division I - FBS).The question is which team has won the most national championships. (And though not clearly stated, I'm assumingthe questioner intended the answer to be limited to FBS, aka, Divsion I-A, teams. If not, the answer is the Division III Mount Union Purple Raiders, with 10.Although the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) does not officially award a national championship in Division I FBS, it does recognize a number of polling and ranking organizations that name a national champion and recognize a members right to claim a national championship by being selected by one of these organizations. A complete list of every national championship recognized by the NCAA can be found at the link below from 1869 through 2006. The eight schools with the most national championships recognized by the NCAA are listed below.Princeton - 28Yale - 27Notre Dame - 21Alabama - 17Southern California - 17Oklahoma - 16Michigan - 15Ohio State - 14List of NCAA recognized national championships:http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/ia_football_past_champs.htmlIt should be noted though, that while a school may be recognized for a certain number of national championships by the NCAA, that does not necessarily mean the school claims all of the championships.

What team has most NCAA titles?

Alabama, 14.According to a previous question and answer on Answers.com, UCLA has 101 titles, plus a baseball title this year. You need to be more precise. The way the question is asked, and the category it is in, do not specify what sport you're talking about. And since you used the word "team" rather than "school", you can't be talking about total titles in all sports, because, for example, the LSU baseball team is a different team than the LSU football team, though both represent LSU.If you're talking about football, Alabama is wrong, as is any team in Division I FBS, since there is no such thing as an "NCAA title" in that division. There are various polling organizations that have awarded a "national championship", culminating with the BCS system in place now, but never has the NCAA sanctioned a "title" for Division I FBS football. The answer, if you're talking about football, is the Mount Union Purple Raiders, who have won 11 NCAA national championships, in Division III.In baseball, the USC Trojans have won 12 national championships, twice as many as their nearest rivals, LSU and Texas, with 6 each. But that's just among Division I schools. I don't know about the lower divisions.I couldn't tell you about basketball or any of the other minor sports. Nor could I answer if you replaced "team" with "school" and wanted to know about all sports. But you really need to ask he question more clearly if you want anyone to answer it.
