As in all profesional soccer games, there are 90 minutes, with 45 minute halfs.
There is also additional time added on at the end of each half for stoppages and injuries.
In knockout games or cup games (single match), if the teams are tied after 90 minutes, 30 minutes of extra time would procceed. If the teams remain tied even after that, a penalty shoot-out follows.
Overtime for MLS is an extra 15 minute period. If the score is still even, another 15 minute period will be played. If after completion of the second OT there is still no winner, then penalty shootouts take place. (This only happens when it is absolutely necessary to determine a winner, such as play-off games.)
The game lasts 90 minutes but time is added for injury and showing cards, about four minutes in all will be added.
