A team can have as many guards as they want. However, most teams aren't that dumb. Most teams have 2 of each position: point guard, shooting guard, power forward, small forward, and center. After that, a team usually has one more of each but that isn't alwasy the case. Usually, since a point guard and shooting guard are both considered guards, a team will have 4-7 guards.
In the NBA there are usually 2 players listed as guards on the court at any one time, although there are no restrictions by rule (all 5 players could be listed as guards or none could be guards)
In the NCAA many teams regularly use 3 guards, and some schools even use a 4 guard offense. This typically happens at smaller schools were it is difficult to attract talented larger players.
There are two main types of guards in Basketball, the point guard and a shooting guard. Both of these player are usually shorter and quicker then the posts. They both are usually fair shooters as they don't often enter the key unless they drive to the hoop. A point guard is the one who is the best ball handler, so he/she often dribble up the ball. A shooting guard can dribble also. A shooting guard often hangs around the outside waiting to receive the ball so they can shoot a jump shot or possibly drive to the basket. A guard may drive to the hoop if there is a lane.
Don't get me wrong. There are many guards that can drive just as well as they shoot (Derrick Rose) but they most often hang around the outside of the key. Plus, it is very embarrassing to get blocked by a post.
Hope this helps a little.
point guard (brings the ball, says the plays, penetrates the paint and finds the open man; most famous pg: earvin "magic" Johnson)
shooting guard (mostly scoring, running around screens to get a free position without the ball; most famous sg: Michael "air" Jordan)
combo guard (plays both guard positions; most famous combo guard: Allen iverson)
there are to things a guard can be
1. point guard- example- magic johson
2. shooting guard- example- Michael Jordan
Point guards
i think its the fowards or the guards
i recommend trying to get guards. also don't take many risks by drafting rookies or unproven players
The two sides of basketball are called offense and defense. On offense the team protects the ball and tries to convert a basket. On defense the team guards the ball and tries to stop the other team from scoring.
The tallest basketball player on a team is usually, but not always, the team's center. His job is usually to block shots, grab rebounds, and score near the basket. However, modern basketball has seen the rise of many very tall guards and forwards who can handle the ball and shoot from long range.
There are no right and kleft guards in basketball. There is a Shooting guard and a Point Guard
No, a center is one position in basketball. There are two forwards (small and power) and two guards for a total of five players on each team.
on the Syracuse basketball team there is 18 players
this dick
There can be as many people as you want on a basketball team but, only 5 players from each team are alloud to play at once.

The best defense would probably be man-to-man to begin with. If the other team proves to be too much of a hassle with bigger guards, shift to a zone defense. Just see which one works better for your team.
