six, the front row has three positions two at the line closest to the net and one at the net aka the setter. in the back row there are also three, two about three feet behind front row and one pushed back to the back line about a foot ahead of it

Playing with four people is not regulation volleyball so you can really set it up however you want.

Volleyball does not have bases . We do have positions though . Players may not switch positions without a substitution before the ball is served . After the ball leaves the server's hands the players are aloud to move wherever they wish on the court . But until the ball is hit they must stay in their positions without overlapping .
the court is usually 60ftx30ft. The net runs down the middle creating two 30x30 foot areas. The size of the ball depends on whether you are playing indoor, outdoor, regulation, or recreational (the court varies just littletoo.)
There is actually a difference between the 2 balls. Outdoor ball pressure is 2.5-3.2psi. Indoor balls are much harder at 4.3-4.6psi. In other words a Beach volleyball is lighter then a indoor volleyball

There is hard court volleyball, which is played on a wooden floor and there is beach volleyball, which is played in the sand (There is also indoor beach volleyball, but it is much smaller than beach and hard court)
The standard volleyball court is 18 meters long and 9 meters wide.
