Their new stadium, LP Field in Nashville, was completed before the 1999 season and Bud Adams, the owner of the team, wanted to change the name to reflect power and leadership. Titans was agreed upon, in part because Nashville is known as the 'Athens of the South', and since then the team has been known as the Tennessee Titans.
